Faith vs Belief

Faith vs Belief: The Biblical Definition of Faith That Changes Everything

The Real Meaning of Faith: Why Faith Is Not Belief (And Why It Matters for Your Healing)

If you are reading this because you are sick… tired… discouraged… or praying for a miracle — I want you to lean in closely.

What I am about to share may feel simple.

But it may also be the very secret that changes everything.

We have been taught that faith means believing.

But faith is not belief.

Belief is agreement in the mind.
Faith is obedience to what you hear from God.

And if you truly understand this difference, it will change the way you approach healing, prayer, and your relationship with Jesus forever.

Jesus Is the Word of God — Not Just a Messenger

Before we talk about faith, we must understand something foundational:

Jesus is the Word of God.

Not a symbol.
Not a metaphor.
Not a teacher alone.

The Word.

The Bible makes this clear:

John 1:1–3 (KJV)
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him…”

John 1:14
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…”

Revelation 19:13
“He was clothed in a vesture, dipped in blood, and His name was called the Word of God.”

This is not poetic language. It is identity.

Jesus is the Word of God.

So when the Bible says:

Romans 10:17
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

It does not mean faith comes by hearing sermons.

It means faith comes by hearing Him.

Faith is born when Jesus speaks to you — personally — and you respond.

The Real Meaning of Faith

Let me say this gently, especially if you are ill and have been “trying to believe”:

Faith is not trying harder to believe God will heal you.

Faith is hearing what He is saying to you — and doing it.

Biblical faith is:

  • Hearing the Word of God (Jesus)

  • Receiving specific instruction or revelation

  • Acting upon it

  • In willingness

  • In obedience

  • Before you see results

Faith always involves a step.

There is always movement.

There is always obedience.

Faith vs Belief: They Are Not the Same

The Bible says even demons believe.

James 2:19
“Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”

Belief alone does not produce miracles.

Faith produces action.

James continues:

James 2:17
“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”

Works are not religious striving.

They are obedience to what you heard.

Every Miracle of Jesus Required a Step of Faith

If you study the miracles of Jesus, you will see a consistent pattern.

He speaks.
They act.
The miracle follows.

Not before.

After.

Let me show you.

The Man with the Withered Hand

Matthew 12:13

Jesus said to him:

“Stretch forth thine hand.”

That hand had been withered. It could not stretch.

Imagine the humiliation. The doubt. The fear.

The step of faith?
He attempted to stretch it.

Healing happened in the act of obedience.

Not in mental agreement.

The Blind Man at Siloam

John 9:6–7

Jesus made clay with His saliva, put it on the man’s eyes, and said:

“Go, wash in the pool of Siloam.”

Mud in his eyes. Still blind.

The instruction made no logical sense.

The step of faith?
He went.

He washed.

“And he went his way, therefore, and washed and came seeing.”

Healing followed obedience.

The Ten Lepers

Luke 17:14

Jesus said:

“Go shew yourselves unto the priests.”

They were still covered in leprosy.

The step of faith?
They walked toward the priests while still diseased.

“And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.”

Not while they believed.

As they went.

The Paralytic at Bethesda

John 5:8–9

Jesus said:

“Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.”

Thirty-eight years paralyzed.

The step of faith?
He tried to stand.

Strength met obedience.

Peter on the Water

Matthew 14:29

Jesus said:

“Come.”

The step of faith?
Peter stepped out of the boat.

Water does not hold men.

But obedience activates the supernatural.

The Secret to Receiving Healing from God

If you are sick right now, please hear me with compassion.

The question is not:

“Do I believe enough?”

The question is:

“Lord, what are You saying to me?”

When someone in our family is ill, we do not first strive to generate belief.

We ask:

“Jesus, what do You want us to do?”

Sometimes it is repentance.
Sometimes it is forgiveness.
Sometimes it is resting.
Sometimes it is changing something practical.
Sometimes it is praying for someone else.

Sometimes it makes no sense at all.

But when we hear — and obey — healing follows.

We have witnessed multiple healings in our own family this way.

Not because we believed harder.

But because we listened.

See one example of what we experienced in our family.

The Still Small Voice Is the Key

The Bible describes God speaking in:

1 Kings 19:12
“A still small voice.”

Faith is relational.

You cannot have faith without connection.

You cannot hear without intimacy.

That is why in Born to Reign, the journey to wholeness begins with:

Connect – The Encounter
Then:
Listen – The Whisper

Because hearing precedes faith.

And faith precedes manifestation.

The Kingdom Pattern

The pattern of the Kingdom is:

Revelation → Obedience → Manifestation

Not:

Belief → Waiting → Hoping

If you are ill, stop trying to manufacture belief.

Sit quietly.

Ask Him.

Wait.

And when He speaks — even if it feels simple or illogical — obey.

That obedience is faith.

The Life-Saving Truth

Faith is not belief.

Faith is hearing the Word of God — Jesus Christ — and acting upon what you hear in willingness and obedience.

And when you move from reacting in fear…
To listening in intimacy…
To obeying in trust…

You begin to reign.

And that is where healing flows.
